Vintage Metal Smaltz Danger Flag Sign

Sorry, this item has sold.

Here's a vintage DANGER sign that dates back to the 1930s. It's a flag style sign on a metal rod that was used as a marker outside. Mostly yellow, it has a horizontal white stripe at the top and the lettering is on a diagonal. This sign has its original smaltz coating which makes it reflective. Smaltzing is an old process where fine pieces of glass or colored sand were imbedded on the surface of signs. It was a practice used from Civil War time up until about 1935. This sign is in good condition, shows some wear, but displays very nicely. It measure 20 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches wide. Without the rod, it measures 5 1/2 inches by 4 1/2 inches. It could use some cleaning. This is one you don't see very often!
