Here's a darling, little, antique, staved, wooden container with fitted cover in very good condition. It's tabletop size, and oval in shape, larger at the bottom than it is at the top. It measures 9 5/8 inches long and 7 1/8 inches wide at the bottom while measuring 8 inches long and about 6 inches wide at the top. It's 7 7/8 inches tall overall.
This little barrel, for lack of a better term, has two, forged iron bands that keep it tight and secure. The cover fits snugly within the opening, also helping to keep the piece sturdy and rigid. It was likely used for food or beverage storage. It has a great, original patina that shows plenty of age and wear. The exterior has a grungy, weathered, and aged appearance while the interior is cleaner looking, presumably because of what was stored inside.
This item is in nice condition, especially considering it dates back into the 19th Century. You'll see some inactive worm holes in some places along with all the charms that create the great look of old, primitive wood. This piece is free of rot and is extraordinarily rugged and well-made. It displays very well and is a scarce primitive piece you'll be proud to own!
