Antique Primitive Staved Wooden Tavern Tankard, As Found, Original Grungy Untouched Patina

$130.00

Fresh to the market and just as we found it, a nice primitive wooden tavern tankard in good, untouched condition! It was recently found hidden away in an old, barn and is dirty but well preserved! It's style strongly resembles that of tankards of the Revolutionary War Period. It's made of staved pine with two iron bands that keep it tight, sturdy, and sound, even after all these years. The initials (R. F.) of what was probably the original owner are carved into the exterior of one of the staves. This tankard has an old, grungy, dark, untouched patina with rich coloring and distinctive graining still visable in places. It shows plenty of age and wear, a testament to its age and authenticity. It has all the charms found with old wood including color variations, light abrasions, scratches, various residue, insect damage and imperfections one would expect from a primitive piece that is around 200 years old. Despite this, there is no rot, active infestation, or significant structural deterioration. This piece is intact, solid and rugged. The handle looks like it sustained damage from being burned at some point in its history. It is stable, not disintegrating and does not smell burnt. Again, this piece is absolutely just as we found it, still dirty and dusty, cobwebs and all! No unpleasant smells. It will clean up well, if desired, but we know some our customers like items in as-found condition. This tankard, measures 8 3/4 inches high with a diameter of about 5 1/2 inches at the top and widening out to about 6 3/4 inches at the bottom. This is an early example of a colonial item that's not commonly found anymore. It's an item sometimes found in museums and is a true survivor that is ready to become the centerpiece of your collection! You won't be disappointed in this!
