Here's an authentic, late 18th to early 19th Century double Betty Lamp in good, untouched condition! It was handmade out of iron and tin and is just as we found it. It is an early pan-style lamp with a handle tab on one side of the top pan. Lamps like this one burned whale oil or household grease and fat trimmings and first came to use in the 18th Century. They continued to be utilized up to the time when oil and kerosene lamps became popular. This lamp still has ancient residue from being used at least a century and a half ago. It spent generations stored away and is still dusty, crusty, and dirty. This primitive piece has hand-cut tin decorative touches, a part of one has a cut in it. Despite imperfections and light surface rust, this is an excellent and unique example of basic early lighting. Don't miss out!
