In our travels throughout Eastern Europe we met an 83 year old Lithuanian gentleman who happened to be the father of one of our antique pickers. When he was a boy, his grandfather taught him how to carve dough bowls out of logs as it was done in the 19th Century. He proudly showed us examples of his work and said each one roughly takes him half a day to make. We thought they would be perfect to offer here on Etsy.com. They were made about 6 years ago and some have started to age more than others. They are unfinished raw wood just like the old ones. They look great just as they are but also can be sanded, stained, oiled, painted, distressed, decoupaged, etc. If you prefer a more aged appearance, leave them outside in the weather for a couple of weeks! While some they tend to be smaller than typical dough bowls used in kitchens back in the day, these can be utilized for a multitude of purposes and of course, are fabulous decor. They range from 13 1/2" to 15-3/4" in length or so. They have wonderful carving detail and are rugged and strong. All of them have flat bottoms so they sit on surfaces without wobbling. Each is unique and has subtle differences that make them wonderfully folksy and much more like the antique bowls than those resin ones being made today. Best of all, you can make them look however you like! Plus, unlike some old ones, these haven’t been exposed to animals or unsanitary conditions. If you want to use for food prep., just rub the surface with mineral oil and you are ready to go! We are proud to be able to offer these very high quality dough bowls exclusively here on Etsy! We have limited supply so don't wait!
