Here's an unopened box of Larkin Co. Powdered Borax circa 1930! It was manufactured and sold by the Larkin Soap Company, which was headquartered in Buffalo, NY from about 1875 to the early 1940s. Well-preserved with original contents still inside, this cardboard package is covered in a printed paper wrap-type label. It has an early look with simple graphics, Larkin Co. logos, suggested uses, directions, and performance claims. This Borax was even touted for medicinal uses!
"For burns, bites and skin irritations such as Eczema and Hives, a solution made from two teaspoonsful of Powdered Borax dissolved in a pint of warm water will soothe and cool the affected parts."
It's a 12 oz package that measures 5 3/4" H, 3 3/8" L, and 3" W. It shows some age and shelf wear but is sound, solid and not brittle. As many know, Larkin Soap items are quite collectible and the former factory and grounds here in the Buffalo area have been experiencing a rebirth with new development. Larkin also had facilities in Peoria and Philadelphia. This original, unopened box of Larkin Borax would certainly make significant additions to any collection!
