Here's a rare, 1930s Orbit Chewing Gum paper store sign in unused condition! It's a small, paper, advertising sign for stores and it promotes Orbit Vitamin "D" Chewing Gum.
During the 1930s, the Orbit Gum Company of Chicago manufactured this unique variation of chewing gum. This was decades before the brand was acquired, reformulated, and popularized globally as a sugar-free brand by the Wrigley Company.
The packaging explicitly highlights that it features "Natural Vitamin 'D' Added" and contains "75 U.S.P. Units Per Five Stick Package." Adding vitamins to everyday items like gum and soda was a popular marketing trend during this era.
The artwork features a classic 1930s illustrated portrait of a smiling woman wearing a traditional ruffled bonnet. It includes the stylized cursive tagline, "Delightful!"
In 1944, Wrigley launched its own version of Orbit gum as a temporary wartime replacement because ingredients for its main brands were heavily rationed. It was later discontinued after the war and brought back much later as the modern brand known today.
This NOS paper sign measures 10 1/2" long by 4 7/8" high and was meant to be taped up to a display, wall, or header in a store. This one had spent most of its existence in a folder along with others, until recently discovered. It has two vertical creases from being folded and stored in a file for decades. The colors are bright and vivid and there are no stains or tears. The edges and corners are crisp and like new. The only place where it shows age/wear is on the folds. Perfectly preserved and one hundred percent authentic, this old pre-Wrigley's Orbit Gum sign is a scarce piece of original advertising. It would look amazing framed and matted!
