Antique Brooklyn Rapid Transit Co. Uniform Button

$21.00

Here's an authentic antique brass uniform button from the historic Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company (BRT) in good, as-found condition. The Brooklyn Rapid Transit Company was established in 1896 to consolidate streetcar, elevated, and subway lines across Brooklyn and Queens. This distinct script logo style button dates from approximately 1896 to 1923. In 1923, the bankrupt company restructured into the famous Brooklyn–Manhattan Transit Corporation (BMT). These buttons were standard issue for transit employees, prominently worn on the heavy wool uniform coats of conductors and motormen. The back of this transit button features a backmark from period manufacturer C. Kenyon Co. of New York. The button measures nearly 7/8" in diameter and could use some cleaning.
