Here's a beautiful, antique, wooden butter churn in nice, well-preserved condition! Recently discovered in an old barn, this has been stored away for decades and has held up marvelously.
Like a barrel, it's made of wooden staves with metal bands and has a thick, carved, wooden splash cover, complete with a little, folksy-looking handle! It shows lots of age and wear, creating a gorgeous patina that is smooth to the touch. The wood also has wonderful graining peeking through its dark surface, along with all the charms of old wood, all of which add up to a fabulous look that can't be replicated!
From the very bottom of the churn to the top of the dasher stick, it measures 27 3/4 inches tall. Minus the stick, it measures 21 1/4 inches high. As for diameter, the churn is about 7 1/2 inches top and bottom. The cover is concave which was meant to redirect cream that splashed out during the churning process. It's about 9 1/2 inches long when including the handle.
Solid, rugged, and tight, there are no active woodworms or termite problems. Not recommended for actual butter making any more but it sure would be a marvelous piece of household decor! It has been cleaned up and waxed and is ready for display! You won't be disappointed in this genuine country antique churn that's straight out of a country estate!
