This is a rare, 18th Century, hearth tool in excellent, well preserved condition. It's an early wafer iron made of engraved brass and forged iron. Both sides of the brass press have decorative patterns that made the confections elegant looking. The long, wrought handles made it possible to hold over an open fire for baking. The iron and brass parts of this piece have a wonderful, old patina; we are offering it in as-found condition. The total length is 16 3/8 inches; the round, brass press pieces have a 4 3/8" diameter. This early kitchen tool opens and closes easily and there is no damage. Scarce and very collectible, this is a museum quality piece at a very good price!
