Antique 19th Century Ceiling Light Fixture Canopy; Cast Iron, Starburst Cover Cap Base

Sorry, this item has sold.

Gorgeous, cast iron, gas light fixture canopy with a fabulous, Art Nouveau look! It has a starburst shape and loads of detail cast right into the metal. This piece was discovered in a box of miscellaneous parts in a barn we just cleaned out and its just as we found it. Much of the original paint is still there; mainly gold-leaf with red and green accents. It has some surface rust, giving it a nice patina, showing age and wear. Originally this was used where a light fixture met the ceiling and helped to cover the hole where the gas pipe (later the electrical wiring) came through. The hole in the center has a screw to tighten which secured it to the pipe/light fixture. Ornate and beautiful, this canopy could also be used as a lamp base among other re-use possibilities. At least 125 years old, it would be great as an element of a period home restoration or as part of a whole new creation!
