Vintage 1930s Advertising Can: Garden Brand Sheep Manure

Sorry, this item has sold.

Here's something you don't find everyday! This is a vintage 1930's Garden Brand Sheep Manure container, fresh from an old barn! We had the pleasure of hunting for old stuff at a nearby farm and found this unusual advertising can in one of the outbuildings! Now it shows plenty of age and has flaws but we think that adds to the charm of its appearance.

This can has a metal top and bottom and the rest is a thick, printed, cardboard/paperboard type material with a metal support on the inside. The front is illustrated in green, white and orange, showing a man tending to a large garden of poppies with a house and fields in the background. There are directions and product information on the other sides of the container. "Garden Brand Sheep Manure supplies the necessary plant foods to produce luxuriant growth. It is the best of all manures for lawns and gardens", reads one paragraph. This product was produced and marketed by the American Chemical Specialties Co. of Springfield, NJ.

This can measures 12" high, 8" long, and 6 1/2" wide. We haven't been able to find another example of this container anywhere. Given the material it is made of, it's reasonable to assume many of them did not survive. Despite the stains and blemishes, this piece is structurally sound and displays nicely. If you like farm, garden, or county-related items, this piece is sure to please!
