Antique Country Primitive Ovoid Redware Jug; 19th Century Folk Pottery

Sorry, this item has sold.

Here's an early piece of antique folk pottery in very good, well-preserved condition! Beautiful and unusual, this old redware jug has an applied handle that connects directly to a small spout. It has an ovoid shape and the bottom has circular grooves that dates it to the 19th Century. The upper third of this piece is whimsically colored in what looks like very old red paint. The rest of the exterior of this jug is unglazed and has a dry, terracotta-like surface. It shows plenty of age and wear and has no cracks or hairlines. There is chipping around the bottom rim which is typical to utilitarian redware of this period. The entire surface, including the chips, has an old, grungy patina from all the use this piece saw as well as decades of storage. It's just as it was found and hasn't been cleaned or altered. Guaranteed old and authentic, this scarce piece of folk pottery will certainly become the center of attraction to whatever setting it is displayed in.
